The peak of Corcovado is a big granite dome, which describes a generally vertical rocky formation to see Brazil’s greatest national icon – The Christ Redeemer Statue of Rio de Janeiro. Is an Art Deco statue created by Polish-French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with French engineer Albert Caquot. Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida fashioned the face. Constructed between 1922 and 1931, the statue is 30 metres (98 ft) high, excluding its 8-metre (26 ft) pedestal. The arms stretch 28 metres (92 ft) wide. On the way, you’ll see Copacabana beach, Botafogo Soccer Club, Federal University, Guanabara Palace, the official residence of the State’s Governor, Fluminense Soccer Club and São Judas Tadeu Church. You’ll then reach Tijuca Forest, is a tropical rainforest in the city. It is claimed to be the world’s largest urban forest, covering some 32 km² (12.4 mi²) and stop at Paineiras to board the vehicles of the National Park Authority. The visit to the monument lasts around 45 minutes. After this visit, you will go to the almost centenary Sugarloaf cable-car station (the first service in South America and the world’s third oldest). The monument is located in the neighborhood of Urca, near where the first settlement of the city of Rio de Janeiro was made. Attractions include the “Bondinho” cable car ride, inaugurated in 1912. On the way, you will see the Yacht Club, Institute Benjamim Constant, for the blind and the National Institute for Mineral Resources.
